We encourage your suggestions, tips, ideas or products that you have found helpful, and we will consider them for inclusion in the appropriate check lists. Road Trip with the Kids Check List - Printable PDF

Essentials for road trip traveling with kids includes the following items, many of which are available at Family Travel Gear. This check list has been compiled by real families who have traveled thousands of miles on the road with their own families, and were gracious enough to share their knowledge with us. We realize that there are other great products out there that would also assist parents traveling with kids so be sure to submit your comments and product ideas to us at customerservice@familytravelgear.com so we can add it to our list.

    Car Travel:

  • Car Organizer console or backseat organizer to hold snacks, toys, and other items within kids reach.
  • Trunk organizer to keep your car emergency fluids, tools, flashers and items organized and ready when needed.
  • Kids travel tray to allow kids to write, play, or snack with ease while driving in order to cut down on pit stops.
  • CD/DVD/Audio book visor organizer to keep all your media items organized in easy to find when you need them most.
  • Food storage container or insulated food storage to keep healthy perishable food and drinks cold during your drive.
  • 12v appliances including a standard ice cooler/fridge, crockpot and mini-car vaccuum to save time and money by eating your own food.
  • Wet wipes and bottled water to clean-up after meals.
  • Diaper gear bag, portable potty and pop-up out house for instant bathroom where every you are, because that's where you'll need it.

Audio Entertainment:

  • Travel music, iPod, CD's, DVD player with movie selection, audio books on CD.

Travel Toys and Games:

Travel Accessories:

  • GPS navigational system are much more affordable and truly take the stress out of long road trips. Be sure to down load recent maps online depending on the unit you choose.

Safety and Security:

  • Good quality First Aid Kit stocked with burn creams, lip balm, sun screen, diaper rash cream, chewing gum (see First Aid Kit Check List for more details)
  • Extra food, extra water, and healthy snacks.
  • Window shades to prevent travel sun burn on children.
  • Aromatherapy - lavender satchel to sooth teething babies.
  • Hat, long sleeve shirt, and extra change of clothes.
  • Vehicle emergency kit with good quality jumper cables, or better yet, a portable battery starter.
  • 12v tire pump and tire repair kit.
  • Cell phone with extra battery for emergencies.
  • Double check your spare tire to make sure it's in good shape.

Comfort Items:

  • Travel fleece blanket for when it gets cold, or it's nap time (12v heated travel blankets are wonderful too.
  • Travel neck pillow, either an inflatable style, or solid.
  • Child travel pillow such as a Toddler Coddler, Kid Coddler, or fun animal travel pillow for kids.
  • Motion sickness wrist band for when things get a little uncomfortable.
  • Motion sickness clean up kit for when things get a lot more uncomfortable.
  • Ear plugs and eye mask for those moments when mom really gets to rest while dad is driving.
  • Thermos with coffee, and fuzzy slippers to make it all perfect!

Plane Trip with the Kids Check List - Printable PDF

Essentials for plane travel with babies and young children include the following items, many of which are available at Family Travel Gear.
