Specialists in Traveling with Special Needs

Online children's products may be a boon to parents looking for toys, furniture, or baby equipment to outfit a family home, but those same retailers may fall short when parents need to outfit a car for journeys of length, or a suitcase for flights, rides, or cruises. That's where Family Travel Gear can help.

Family Travel Gear owner Linda Walsh explains, "We sell unique products specifically designed for families traveling with children." She and her husband love to travel and have always enjoyed adventures with their children. When their third child was born with Down syndrome, though, preparing for trips took on added significance. Daughter Bridgettes special needs meant that the Walsh's had to pack more than just clothing, books, and a teddy bear. Their list of "items to pack" grew to include medical supplies, oxygen tank, special food and special travel accessories such as pillows.

One of the Walsh's first trips with Bridgette was a multi-day car ride from Denver to Disneyland. Finding the right products for the trip proved difficult. They spent hours searching for gear that provided medical supply storage compartments, the right kind of insulated food/medicine carriers, a full body support travel pillow, and other specialized items. The experience convinced them that the market needed a retail store devoted to products that would make traveling with children, especially those with special needs easier. The Walsh's launched the Family Travel Gear website shortly thereafter.

Now parents have only one website to go to find everything from travel tips, and product reviews, to all the most unique and useful travel products that will help parents travel with their young children and children with special needs. Featuring travel tips and product reviews, www.FamilyTravelGear.com lists items by category of 'Who's Going - Parents, Babies, Toddlers, Teens, Special Needs), to what kind of transportation (Plane, Car) and destination (International, Beach, Camping, etc). Merchandise includes specialty backpacks (including backpacks that hold portable oxygen tanks from smallest up to size C), car and luggage organizers, travel pillows, airplane restraint harnesses, seat covers, and even motion sickness clean-up kit.

The Walsh's continue to add new products to their website in their on going effort to help other families to travel easier with their children, and children with special needs.

Travel-time Boredom Buster has Fun Covered

For many business travelers, a baby or toddler welcoming them home is a wonderful sight, but one seated next to them on an airplane is not. Linda Walsh, owner of Family Travel Gear believes this does not have to be the case. "Any experienced parent will tell you that a bored child is one nobody wants to be near" she says. "We offer many products to make traveling with children easier and more enjoyable, for everyone involved."

The Air Play airplane table activity cover by Star Kids Products is just one of the hundreds of products Family Travel Gear carries, and like all of the company's merchandise, it has been tested and approved by some very discriminating consumers. "Whenever we consider adding to our product line, we first have the product tested for safety, then we personally try it out. If it gets our approval and is up to our standards for durability, we'll add the product to our online catalog."

The Air Play passed with "flying" colors. It easily slips over most airplane tray tables and features quiet toys and activities suitable for children 6 months to 24 months old. Developed by early-childhood specialists, the Air Play offers buckles, zippers, beads on a string, and stuffed toys that fit into their own pockets. Activities are available to the child whether they tray table is down, or in the upright and locked position. Once it's time to de-plane, the Air Play folds inside out and becomes and easy to carry pouch.

Bridgette Walsh, the youngest of Family Travel Gear team found the bright colors and fun gadgets on the Air Play Table Cover especially appealing, as she commented, "Wow! Ooh, Neat!"
